3 different forms of logistics today

There are more items and commodities being transported now then ever before, and the next are three ways in which this is facilitated.

There are many different forms of logistical transport, and the most frequent and regularly used for small ranges is by road. As most non-industrial logistics is in the form of shipments to small businesses and homes, they are solely accessible by van or truck. Whilst this is not the fastest or most effective form of transportation, it is one of the most needed; without it there would be no way for the items we all want to be delivered to practically every shop. These are the primary reasons why there are more logistics jobs in this sector than any other. Another factor is of course that it requires the least teaching and expertise, for all one needs is a driving license for the specific vehicle. As this sector is so necessary, regularly used and easily available, it means there are many companies that participate in the field. Chairmen such as Iain Ferguson lead firms that are well founded in the market, so are trustworthy and can hold much of their business.

The largest form of global cargo and freight transportation is seaborne, so it is one of the most appealing for investors and businesses wanting to break into the market. This form of transport is therefore widely used as a result of the sheer size of the ships used to move commodities, which also entails a cheaper cost to the customer wanting to move the goods. The cargo on ships can vary hugely, with the most typical being commodities and materials that are heavy or there is a big volume that needs transporting. Sometimes however, top freight companies are commissioned to carry abnormally big or odd shaped objects such as wind turbines. A lot of the biggest logistics companies have some footing in the sea freight sector because it is so profitable, such as the French logistical firm lead by Vincent Bolloré; the firm does work in the construction and operation of the port terminals that freight liners use.

Products are bought and sold from places on the other half of the world, so obviously there must be some way to move these items from the seller to the buyer. The speediest, but most expensive form of logistics, by plane, is ideal for people in an intercontinental transaction. As this form of transportation is the most costly, there are much less firms that supply the service than in other sorts, such as trucking. The relatively high barriers to entry that exist in air transport, it means that only the biggest logistics companies can compete in the market. Richard Forson is president and Chief Executive Officer of one of the leading air freight firms in Europe and in the world. Many products that is carried by airplane is either very valuable or urgent because of the minimal space offered on a plane.
